 A new Director

We are pleased to announce the arrival of Sir John Holmes GCVO, KBE, CMG as the ninth Director of The Ditchley Foundation.

The tranquillity of rural Oxfordshire is a world away from Sir John’s previous position as Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations in New York, a post he held from 2007 - August 2010.  Before that he was a British career diplomat, leaving the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2007 as Ambassador to France.

“I look forward to building on the outstanding work of my eight predecessors, who have established Ditchley as the highly respected meeting place it is today,” said Sir John.  “My priority is to ensure that Ditchley remains relevant and true to Sir David Wills’ ambitions to promote transatlantic and wider international understanding.  I certainly believe that the need is greater today than ever for a private forum for open and constructive debate about the issues challenging governments and policy makers across the globe.”

Sir John’s first conference as Director will be held at Ditchley Park beginning on 30 September.  It explores, appropriately enough, the issues surrounding Food Security.  The Director’s Note summarising the discussions will be available on the website from mid-October.
