Sir Richard Mottram appointed Vice-Chairman

Sir Richard Mottram GCB has been appointed to the role of Vice-Chairman of the Foundation’s Council of Management.  He is a keen supporter of Ditchley and has been a Governor since 1997 and a member of Council since 2002.  We are delighted that Sir Richard has agreed to accept this role.


Sir Richard brings with him considerable experience of government particularly in the security area, having worked for many years on defence and security policy in the civil service and held a number of posts at Permanent Secretary level.  He was Permanent Secretary of: the Office of Public Service and Science in the Cabinet Office (1992-1995); the Ministry of Defence (MOD) (1995–1998); the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions and, subsequently, the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions (1998-2002); and the Department for Work and Pensions (2002-5). Between 2005 and 2007, Sir Richard was the Permanent Secretary Intelligence, Security and Resilience and Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee in the Cabinet Office.


Sir Richard’s current roles include chairman of Amey plc and of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (an agency of the MOD), member of the International Advisory Board of GardaWorld, board member of Ashridge Business School, and visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
