South Asia: peace, prosperity and regional cooperation

Published: Thursday, 12th May 2016

The Director’s Note following the April conference, “South Asia: peace, prosperity and regional cooperation”, is now published.

Throughout the discussions participants tried to focus on the possibilities for the future rather than becoming side-tracked by past difficulties. There was a sense around the table of a desire, particularly among the young, to see a more cooperative regional approach, with economic growth and stability the prizes, even while governments and institutions continued to struggle with anxieties about status and security. The future for the countries of the region was in their own hands, but the influence of friends and allies from without would be important, as ever.

A number of ideas and recommendations emerged from the discussions which are included in the Note, available to read in full here
